Soul Season Record Watch
11 Jun 07
With all the ups and downs, heartbreak and elation, the Philadelphia Soul have wrought on their fans this season there hasn't been much time to look at some standout performances by Soul players this season.
Time to correct that oversight.
Several team and individual records have fallen this year. For the team there was the much lauded 78 points against New Orleans setting a new single game record in May. And the record 47 first half points scored against Austin (also in May). And an 8 touchdown game against Colorado tied the single game TD record.
Excellent team effort by all involved.
On a more personal level several players set team individual records this season. Let's take a moment to acknowledge those efforts.
Individual Recordbreaking Performances
Dwayne Missouri - With two games left to play Dwayne Missouri has bested his own Soul record for sacks in a season. The Soul's all time sack leader had 5 in 2005 and has 7 so far this season.
Wes Ours - Wes took two records in one game with 11 rushes for 54 yards against Austin on May 27, 2007.
Charles Pauley - In the same Austin game Wes romped for his records Pauley set one of his own. His 25 yard scamper set the record for longest rush by a Soul player. Charles also took the single game record for combined yardage with 244 against Kansas City on May 05, 2007. He crushed Steve Smith's single game record of 145 yards receiving with a 202 yard effort against Colorado on March 22nd.
Eddie Moten - His 11.5 tackles in that KC game was a Soul single game record.
Larry Brackins - While Boogie's 5 TD performance against Tampa Bay last week didn't break the record single game TD reception, it did tie it. However, it did set the rookie TD reception record for the Soul.
Congrats! You guys ROCK!!!
Record Watch
Wes and Charles are also poised to set single season records. With 13 yards over the next two games Wes Ours will become the Soul's single season rushing leader.
Charles Pauley needs just 4 receiving touchdowns in the next two games to become the Soul's single season TD reception record holder. If he can manage 210 receiving yards over that span he'll also have the receiving yardage record. Less likely to be achieved is the reception record. Pauley needs 20 in the next two games to set that one.
From a team standpoint, the Soul is 72 points from beaking the single season socring record (852 points) and could very well hit that mark by season's end.
In a disappointing season, at least so far, it's good to see some bright spots both team and individual. Kudos to all those that made these superlatives possible and thanks for some wonderful memories.
